About IM-Mobile
Podcast: Play in new window
Blogger and podcaster Brian Prows
Welcome to IM-Mobile, a blog about mobile marketing, mobile advertising and relationship marketing.
People carry their cell phones with them 24/7 to the office, school, the mall, everywhere. Many people have said “you may forget your wallet at home and not go back; but if you leave your phone, you’ll always return to get it.”
Mobile phones connect people to each other in ways not possible with traditional media. For marketers and advertisers, mobile and wireless devices offer innovative and creative new ways to engage people and define their brands by offering information and services at the right time and in the right place. Mobile is the future of marketing.
Mobile phones now number over 5 BILLION worldwide. Add another 5 BILLION wireless devices to the mix (tablets, e-readers and other gadgets) and that increases to 10 BILLION wireless devices networks. Truly, we live in a wireless age.
Growth of mobile is highest in developing nations and continents such as Africa, India and South Asia and, according to researchers, mobile phones will surpass the number of personal computers in the next two years. According to research companies, mobile will become the dominant communications channel in the next 3-5 years.
Why Mobile Marketing and Advertising?
Why is marketing and advertising so important in this growing ecosystem? First, it puts mobile phones and other devices in the hands of billions who otherwise wouldn’t have them for communications. It pays the bill. Advertising also generates revenues to support media publishers who deliver valuable information content to readers.
Unlike other media channels–television, radio, the desktop Internet and print–one of mobile’s strengths is its “one-on-one” nature. As mobile handsets become more powerful and 3G/4G wireless networks connect users to the mobile Internet, marketers and advertisers can deliver relevant, personalized messages that increase consumer engagement in ways not possible with traditional media. Brands now have a powerful tool for two-way conversations with their audiences, creating stronger relationships and customer loyalty.
